National Children’s Dental Health Month

Happy, healthy teeth aren’t just for adults. Here at Dentisse, we want to see children and adults of all ages experiencing the best dental health possible. Our toothpaste is made with sensitive ingredients, because your mouth deserves a gentle cleaning. We are passionate about bringing you products that will leave your oral health in better condition than when you found us.

During the month of February, be on the lookout for dental health tips targeted toward your children. We will be posting regular updates on our Facebook page to help equip you with the facts you need, as well as to give you some ideas to help make tooth-brushing fun for your kids.

To help you make the most of National Children’s Dental Health Month, here are a couple things you can do with your children to prepare for the month ahead:

Get fun toothbrushes

Try letting your kids pick out their own, soft-bristled toothbrush this month. If they get to pick out an awesome Frozen toothbrush, or maybe one that looks like a Star Wars lightsaber, they will have a greater sense of ownership over their tooth-brushing routine.

Invest in some flossers

Flossing is hard enough as an adult, let alone a small child. Today’s market provides several options for single-use flossers. This could be the perfect starter tool to teach your children the importance of flossing. Plus, they come in really cool shapes!

Teach proper techniques

It’s important to teach children proper tooth-brushing techniques. Children of different ages should spend different amounts of time brushing their teeth. Teach them how long to brush, how to hit all the teeth, and not to brush too hard! Remember: kids learn the best by watching, so be sure to practice good tooth-brushing habits yourself!

Reward system

Every family is different, so you may already have an incentive system in your home. Whatever your family chooses to do, be sure that consistent tooth-brushing is part of that reward system. Rewards and prizes make for great motivators!

Eat healthy

Cutting back on the sugary-sweet stuff throughout the day, and supplementing your children’s diet with healthy fruits and veggies, will create a healthier environment inside your child’s mouth. Tooth-brushing won’t be such an absolute chore because there won’t be a layer of sugar to scrub off the teeth!

Remember, these are just a few basic principles to healthy dental care for children. Make sure to follow our Facebook page for regular updates throughout National Children’s Dental Health Month, and read more about the American Dental Association here. We’re excited to educate you and promote healthy oral care inside your home.
